Contrary to what some may say, whey protein is as useful and healthy for women as much as men – maybe even more so. Another misconception is whey protein is only useful to build big muscles. Wrong! Whey is for anyone who wants to be healthy and achieve lower levels of body fat by replacing garbage calories with something useful: high quality, metabolism boosting protein. Whey protein for women, then, can be hugely beneficial, particularly as women are predisposed to store body fat easier than men. But there’s more women need to know to effectively burn fat, whey or not…
Carbs (sugars) are public enemy number one, and Complex Carbs (pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, etc) are public enemy number two. Here’s why…
Carbohydrates are the main energy supply of the body so are broken down extremely quickly. Unfortunately, they are broken down into blood sugars which raise insulin levels which brings down your blood sugar levels by forcing the blood sugars into… fat cells!
Now, you can’t simply cut out all the carbs in your diet and not replace them with anything else, because it’ll probably be too much of a big calorie deficit. That’s good right? Unfortunately, no: if you have a calorie deficit too low, your body goes into starvation mode and fights tooth and nail to store fat and burn muscle for energy. And the less muscle you have, the harder it becomes to lose fat, because muscle mass burns calories just by being there.
Whey protein for women can be part of the answer. Cut your carbohydrate intake down, and make sure you keep your carb intake to either before or after exercise [which you must do to effectively burn fat and stay healthy; let nobody kid you otherwise] when it’ll be used for replenishing muscle energy and not be stored as fat.
In place of the carbohydrates you have now largely dropped, having a few whey protein shakes each day is a great way for women to lose fat. Coupled with regular exercise, lower carbohydrates (but always have a cheat day each week when you eat whatever you want – carbs included, to boost the metabolism back up) is a winning formula for women looking to lose fat. Or, anybody to lose fat, for that matter.
The letters PGN may say nothing to you. What they stand for reveals a little more: Phat Girl Nutrition. PGN is a supplement company which is involved in formulating whey protein for women. It’s fair to say the owner of PGN Nutrition is no slouch: Jen Hendershott is a Ms. Fitness Olympia and Ms. International Fitness Champion.
