Unflavored Whey Protein

Whey protein comes in every flavor imaginable, and the flavors of each brand can be very different again. The popularity of unflavored whey protein may come as a surprise to some people who just don’t get why, when there are so many flavors, a person would just want their protein flavorless.

One of the main reasons a person may want unflavored whey protein is an allergy to certain flavors or colorings. Another reason is, a good quality unflavored whey protein – a high purity isolate in particular – has a very clean and pure taste. It may be an acquired taste, but it’s certainly one which can be appreciated and welcomed.

Having an unflavored whey protein can also allow you to mix it with a variety of fruit juices and it can go down quite well. Whereas, if the whey were flavored, you could be quite limited to what you could mix it with. E.g.: Vanilla whey and Lemon, anyone?

But there’s another reason unflavored whey is big, and becoming bigger: It’s versatility as a cooking ingredient.

True, most people just mix their whey up with a liquid and gulp it down, but the more adventurous also use it to bake or create uncooked snacks with, such as muffins, flapjacks, brownies, you name it. Sure, this can be done with flavored whey protein, but, a big tub of unflavored whey protein can provide versatility and other flavorings added independently.
