Although whey protein is gradually earning it’s rightful place among the mainstream population as a very healthy and beneficial supplement for anyone to use, it’s primary consumer base is the sporting community – particularly those involved in muscle building.

Heavy duty muscle building requires heavy duty nutrition, and that means lots of good, wholesome food – particularly protein. Just because whey protein is a supplement, that doesn’t mean it’s a compromise, quite the contrary: it’s widely regarded as the best source of protein available.

‘Muscle building’ is a generic term for what is actually a broad range of different activities and methods; all of which involve building muscle – but not necessarily for the same ends.

Most people will be able to build an impressive physique from this type of training, but won’t become ‘bodybuilder’ huge. However, the muscle they build is all functional for sporting purposes.

Bodybuilders are the ones who pack on the most muscle, and any type of muscle fiber will do, even slower twitch fibers not geared towards high performance sports.

Some people enjoy and succeed at a combination of both.
